Pros

Initially, the benefits were spectacular. When I started, Visa was not a public company, and they had to compete with stock compensation plans from other companies. They did this by boosting the benefits.

Cons

It is a marketing company. Brand and Technology fought all the time, but eventually, Brand won most of the battles. Technology was a cost center, not a valued resource.

As a technologist, this Brand-centric view really impacts technological career growth. One must become a manager to succeed, especially now that off-shoring is very commonplace.

The benefits eroded over time. While the salary was still pretty good, eventually, the total package paled in comparison to other employers.

Advice to Management

Stop with the offshoring. Pay more attention to the cardholders.
