The interviewer was leaving out important details needed to solve the coding problem. First, his input was incorrect; one of the entries was [6,6], which didn't make sense, and he told me to ignore it.

When I gave him my first solution, he stated it was only one level deep. He wanted to see the employees of managers recursively. I lost 15-20 minutes because he did not mention this requirement.

Overall, he tripped me up, leaving me with insufficient time to think of a better solution.

The IT department here is 100% Indian. They don't know how to communicate well.
