At the same time, there are teams that appear to be only keeping the lights on while pretending to do interesting work.
It is a large place and easy to get lost, unless you stick it out for a couple of years minimum and try hard to get noticed.
Some teams have long hours, low staff numbers, and work at all hours. Set your boundaries early on.
Abolish silos. Encourage cross-pollination.
Don't have 20 layers between management and engineering.
Bring in (or groom) leaders, not managers. Try your best to promote from within as opposed to putting in someone from outside the company.
