Process

I applied online.

Few weeks later, I was contacted by a recruiting consultant from Wells Fargo for initial screening.

He asked me a bunch of questions around work eligibility, salary requirements, and asked me if I had experience in the skills the job required. That conversation lasted for about 25 minutes. At the end of the call, he told me that I’d probably be contacted by the hiring manager in 1-2 weeks. The recruiter also mentioned that I could contact him if I had any questions, but he never responded to any of my questions.

4 weeks after I spoke with the recruiter, I got contacted by the hiring manager. He just called my number without warning me in advance. He told me if I was still interested in pursuing the role, I had to schedule an interview with him in 2 days, and he gave a timeslot. He said that the call would last for 30 minutes. I told him that I was vacationing with my family at that time, but figured I could probably manage a 30-minute phone discussion, so I agreed to do the call.

He sent an invite for a 30-minute call, then a few minutes later, he updated this call to 1 hr.

When I joined the call with the hiring manager, I was under the impression that it would be one-on-one, mostly a technical interview. It turned out to be a panel interview with 4 other high-level managers.

They were asking me (or actually reading pre-written questions) about standard HR stuff:

  • How did you deal with a difficult employee?
  • How do you convince or negotiate with others?
  • There were some questions about conducting code reviews…

All your answers have to be from your personal experience. There were hardly any follow-up questions.

After I was done with responding to their questions, in the 2-3 minutes that we had left, I was given an opportunity to ask my question.

At the end of the call, the hiring manager thanked everyone by their name on WF side who "were kind enough" to join the call (though he didn’t thank me for joining this ad-hoc call while I was vacationing with my family).

2 weeks later, I got an automated email stating that they went with someone else.
