Pros

They believed in the work that was being done and allowed the teams to operate and deliver how they worked best.

This created a culture that was unique and rewarding.

This made the bank stand out as different and saved it during the 2008 crisis.

Cons

With the scandals that occurred on the retail side of the bank, an overhaul of the retail side definitely needed to occur. However, this overhaul was extended to all areas of the bank and created an atmosphere that stripped away the existing culture and made the bank less open to new ideas and freedom to improve or improvise solutions. Basically, the bank has become a replica of all the other large banks. When the next crisis occurs, I’m afraid Wells Fargo will be just as embroiled in the issues as all other financial institutions.

Advice to Management

Congratulations with moving the bank forward from the scandals, and in doing so, recreating Chase and B of A instead of creating something unique.
