Automation Engineer Interview Experience - Dublin, Ireland

Process

The first round was a quick phone call with a recruiter. The second round was a 30-minute interview with a manager.

The manager was 10 minutes late, so the interview lasted only 20 minutes. The questions were standard, mostly about the tools used on a daily basis. My impression was that the manager is very conservative, and if your experience differs from their beliefs, you won’t be considered a good fit. Alternative opinions or experiences are not appreciated.

For example, the manager asked where I design test cases. In my company, we don’t use TestRail or Zephyr — all test cases are created in Jira under specific stories. The manager interrupted me and said that stories are only for developers’ features.

There was also a question about troubleshooting issues in GitLab Actions. After I shared my experience, the manager responded with, “I don’t need knowledge from books.” I still don’t understand what that was supposed to mean.

I would have expected a manager at a company of this level to communicate more effectively.
