Applied through LinkedIn, and the recruiter and hiring manager were very nice. I wish I could write the same about the technical interviewer.
Recruiter: A phone call explained the process. She was very senior and remained very nice throughout the interview process.
Hiring (Tech) Manager: A discussion about team requirements. They asked a few technical questions to assess my fit with the requirements, and there were also a few behavioral questions.
Tech HackerRank: Out of 45 minutes, the interviewer asked technical questions for 20-25 minutes and allowed only 15-20 minutes for the HackerRank questions. He did not understand the solutions I provided and seemed to be waiting for the program to fail. I shared the answers with a few friends, and they confirmed I had the most optimal solutions. I wish he had shared my answers with a colleague or another team member. The only thing I missed was a line (i++;j++;) and I wish I had been provided one more minute to verify. It was my bad luck, but I have no regrets about missing out.
The overall process was good, except for the last interviewer, who I wish could be trained on how to conduct technical interviews.
Feedback to Workday: I suggest training some of the software developers on how to conduct technical interviews.
Feedback to the potential candidate: Please request the interviewer to start the HackerRank test early, as the time scheduled is only 45 minutes, and if you get the interviewer I encountered, you will only get 15 minutes to solve the questions.
