Software Engineer Interview Experience - Vancouver, British Columbia

November 1, 2024
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process was quite quick. The recruiter got back to me the next day after the final interview round.

The recruiter extended a verbal offer for the position, stating I performed very well in the interview. I expressed my gratitude for the offer and inquired about the possibility of negotiation.

He mentioned they would be willing to discuss the numbers, rerun the suggested figures with the finance team, and then get back to me. I provided my desired numbers, which were slightly higher than their offer, along with a justification for my reasoning.

I asked the recruiter to update me with the final numbers regardless of the outcome so we could proceed. He expressed confidence in securing some changes to the offered figures and assured me he would be in touch.

I did not hear back for a week. When I followed up, the recruiter informed me they had decided not to proceed with my candidacy.

I was surprised by this decision, especially after our positive conversation and the verbal offer. When I requested an explanation, the recruiter simply stated they could not adjust the numbers, leading to their decision.
