Pros

Smart people. Get to work on products used by millions of people. Good work-life balance and benefits such as free lunch, etc.

Cons

At times, too much over-engineering and poor architectural decisions were made by architects who have not touched code in years.

There was too little autonomy in engineering teams.

There was too much politics and a lack of long-term vision due to performance reviews and people wanting to work on the latest (failing) new and shiny thing (because of quarterly reviews).

Advice to Management

Go to business school, or at least take some basic classes in leadership, etc. The latest PR and bad media say it all. Trying to treat employees as kids doesn't work.
