One of the best interviews I’ve ever had. FAANG interviews can get crazy, and in my experience, they can be summarized as an asocial engineer in a hoodie coming in and asking you a LeetCode Hard problem.

But the Yelp engineers were very sociable and friendly. They asked the kind of questions that effectively gauge your technical skills and make you want to work there.

The only reasons I passed it up were:

• I did not want to leave my partner in Seattle.
• I needed more PTO.
• A cost-of-living adjustment for SF.

If you’re already in SF or know you want to move there, I would wholeheartedly recommend Yelp.

Stick with Leetcode mediums and system design.

Realize they don’t put much emphasis on complexity and more on the practicality of your code.
