The process included a phone screen interview, an on-site interview, and the usual paperwork. The phone screen was with the hiring manager and included both motivational and technical questions.
The on-site interview was very interesting as it included technical questions, code pairing, design, and architectural questions. Even the CTO participated in the process (though I didn't know who was who during the interview). Some interviews were 1:1, while the others had two interviewers, or a 2:1 if you will.
Even though there was drilling on all aspects expected of a senior candidate, and some questions were very hard, the interviewers did not intimidate me or make me uncomfortable. They were really trying to assess me as a professional and also as a fit to the Zendesk engineering culture.
The most difficult interview was the pair programming session. I wasn't expecting to write actual working code during the interview, but it was fun.
