I applied for the Staff Software Engineer role as I am performing a similar role at my current employer.
I had a 30-minute Zoom interview with the recruitment manager, who is based in Singapore. She asked me about my experience and what I was looking for in my new role. She seemed particularly focused on my technical skills, and Scala in particular. She seemed concerned that a lot of my career has been spent in the .Net world.
After the interview, I got an automated email saying I was not successful, without any feedback.
I emailed the person who interviewed me to ask for feedback, as I felt my skills were a pretty good match.
She responded that I didn't have enough Scala or Kafka experience. The job description said Scala knowledge would be a plus and Kafka knowledge would be a bonus. If I had known these skills were so important, I probably wouldn't have applied.
How much Scala experience do you have?
