The recruiter reached out to me saying they were building a new team and would love to talk to me. I decided to apply, and they set up a Zoom interview with the hiring manager and lead developer.
The hiring manager apparently never looked at my resume, because halfway through the interview, he said I didn't have the experience they needed. That's fine, I guess, but he could have saved everyone's time by reading my resume beforehand.
But... then, amazingly, he proceeded to describe how inadequate I was for the position and how I would be in over my head in this job because it is so hard and I would not be able to handle it. It almost seemed like he was using this interview to make himself feel like a bigshot, or who knows. It was surreal.
I tried to be polite and understanding, but to be honest, it was sort of humiliating, and it makes me angrier the more I think about how I was treated during the interview.
Overall, the experience was terrible. The kicker is that they reached out to me! It's not like I was seeking to work for Zendesk.
I'm glad I didn't get this job because if this is how they treat people, I would not have stayed long.
