Zendesk resembles the "medium place" with an average tech stack, moderate compensation, median projects, and mediocre management.
This is actually a reasonable strategy. If you can't compete on prestige and won't compete on compensation, then this approach provides a comfortable spot for developers burnt out by bad practices in other companies to rest and recuperate for a while before moving on. The company has grown and matured post-IPO into a successful, stable, bland, big org. So, while there's not too much that's exciting, there's also not too much that's concerning.
Pros:
Going the extra mile is not rewarded.
Zendesk has never understood how to run or reward innovative technical features. At best, you'll get slightly more than someone who coasted.
The interview process was quite relaxed, likely because I had already completed a 6-month internship with the team. It started with a casual conversation with a manager, where we discussed my interests in tech, preferred programming languages, and g
Good experience. Questions were well-suited, and there was also a technical assignment about parsing some JSON data from an external API. Overall, there were 3 technical rounds: 2 about the technical coding assignment and 1 about technical questions
It was great, but I had to wait for feedback for 2 weeks. I was unsure about the results and started the process at another company. During the interviews, there was always a dedicated time for questions from my side.
