Process

Another company with a self-obsessed ex-FAANG interviewer who showed zero interest, kept cutting me off, and bragged about the company's culture.

READ THIS BEFORE ACCEPTING AN INTERVIEW

Here is the whole process: A recruiter approached me through a third-party job search marketplace. I loved Zillow's work and accepted the interview, even though the company has experienced significant attrition recently.

Next was the tech screening. The interviewer introduced himself for over two minutes, bragging about his previous work in FAANG, but started cutting me off within seconds of my own introduction (first red flag). He then moved on to the coding challenge. There were two questions: one simple LeetCode and one medium. There was a significant misunderstanding on the second question regarding whether or not to start coding once the pseudo-code was finalized, and we kept mistaking each other's expectations.

The entire interview was not interactive. The interviewer posted the question and muted himself, requiring me to constantly ensure a two-way conversation. While this is a coding round and collaboration is key, not everyone is familiar with a random web IDE. We would prefer to brainstorm the question and set expectations correctly within the hour instead of being rushed verbally.

Dear Company, interviewers do not need to explain the company's work culture and the team. Candidates can gather this information from the interview process and the Q&A.

I have participated in tech interviews with interviewers who could connect with me and keep me engaged throughout the hour, providing the best possible experience. Unfortunately, this was not that.

I don't care if the senior leaders are ex-FAANG or Tesla; I would decline to work with them if they lack people skills.
