The company used to have a positive and supportive work culture, especially during the COVID-19 period, when employee well-being and flexibility were prioritized. Unfortunately, in recent years, that culture has significantly deteriorated, with growing concerns around leadership accountability, employee treatment, and lack of action on feedback.
Frequent unannounced layoffs have occurred, often impacting individuals who voiced concerns during All Hands or team meetings, or those about to take parental leave. This has created a culture of fear and silence.
In December 2023, our entire team formally raised concerns about our manager to the Chief Digital & Information Officer. These included issues such as irresponsibility, lack of empathy, disrespectful behavior, and habitual absence from meetings. As of April 2025, no action has been taken. While the manager remains in position, most of his direct reportees have since left the company—this speaks volumes about the work environment.
The manager in question lacks both technical and managerial competence, yet remains in favor with leadership. He appears to retaliate against team members who challenge him by denying promotions or initiating targeted layoffs. This has significantly impacted morale and team retention.
Internal growth and career development are actively discouraged, with managers blocking opportunities to upskill or transition to other teams. This lack of support for career progression is highly unprofessional and demotivating for employees who are eager to grow within the organization.
Despite conducting biannual employee surveys, there appears to be no meaningful follow-up or action taken based on the feedback received. For instance, it's well known internally that our manager consistently received one of the lowest ratings in the entire IT department (around 2 out of 10), yet no corrective measures were taken.
This lack of accountability sends a discouraging message to employees and undermines trust in the feedback process.
