Job Description

Amazon's Operations division is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. This role is crucial in optimizing automated systems across Amazon's fulfillment centers in the London region. The position requires travel between regional sites within London and focuses on ensuring automated systems operate at peak efficiency.

As an Automation Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing various automated systems, from conveyors to sortation systems. You'll work with cutting-edge technology, including Amazon Robotics and Complex Item Sorter systems, while collaborating with a global team of technical experts. The role involves monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements to maximize equipment availability.

The RME team is a technically-focused group that maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment across Amazon's global network of fulfillment centers. You'll have the opportunity to work with advanced automation technology, some of which is unique to Amazon. The role offers significant growth potential within both the RME team and broader Amazon organization.

Key responsibilities include monitoring and troubleshooting automated systems, working with the EU Controls network, providing data visualizations, participating in continuous improvement projects, and ensuring proper system documentation. You'll also collaborate with global teams on equipment installation and commissioning, while supporting other sites in the EU Controls network as needed.

This position requires expertise in PLC-controlled automation, experience with various conveyor and sortation systems, and proficiency in tools like EPLAN, Ladder Logic, and SCADA platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities For Automation Engineer

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and repair issues with key systems
  • Work with the EU Controls network to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics
  • Provide data visualisations of troubleshooting to internal stakeholders
  • Own or actively participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Work with different departments to ensure systems documentation
  • Work with global colleagues to install and commission new equipment
  • Support other sites in the EU Controls network as needed
  • Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings

Requirements For Automation Engineer

Python
  • Experience with PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis
  • Experience supporting conveyors and sortation systems
  • Experience with material handling, flow and capacity visualization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
  • Experience with EPLAN, Ladder Logic and structure programming
  • Knowledge of Siemens, Allen-Brady or Codesys PLCs
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar platform
  • Advanced proficiency in verbal and written English
