Job Description

Amazon Data Services Inc. is hiring for an Engineering Operations Tech (EOT) to support data centers in the ORD area. The EOT ensures all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. Responsibilities include planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The role involves overseeing day-to-day operations, acting as an escalation point, performing root cause analysis, troubleshooting, creating new standard practices, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and communicating complex technical information. The position requires working in a 24/7 environment with the ability to provide after-hours support as needed.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The team supports all AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continuous customer access to AWS services. The role offers opportunities to work on challenging problems with diverse teams across AWS, delivering high standards for safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost for customers.

Key qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or critical environment
  • 4+ years of experience with electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations
  • 3+ years of experience with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in elevated locations
  • Willingness to respond to off-hours emergency calls

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or College degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in Mechanical/Electrical Field
  • Electrical or Mechanical trade (Post Secondary Education)

Responsibilities For Data Center Engineering Operations Technician , DCC Communities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
  • Operate independently with limited direct management
  • Act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal SLA
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operation Technicians and vendor support teams
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Comply with all physical security procedures and policies
  • Respond to off-hour emergency calls and assist with investigation, mitigation, and recovery of issues
