Description For Satellite Network Engineer, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper, Amazon's ambitious satellite internet initiative, is seeking a Satellite Network Engineer to join their team in either Redmond, WA or San Diego, CA. This role combines networking expertise with satellite communications, focusing on system data-path/network verification and validation of software interface requirements and modem architectures.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide through a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites. As a Satellite/Payload Integration and Test Network Engineer, you'll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and third-party partners from development to productization of various Kuiper products.

The role requires strong networking fundamentals, with hands-on experience in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, QoS, and VLANs. You'll be working extensively with Linux systems, AWS cloud resources, and industry-standard testing tools like Wireshark and Iperf. The position involves end-to-end network testing, troubleshooting complex networking issues, and automating test processes for efficiency.

The compensation is competitive, ranging from $129,800 to $212,800 per year, depending on location, with additional benefits including medical insurance and 401k. The position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to export control regulations. If based in San Diego, up to 30% travel to Redmond may be required.

Responsibilities For Satellite Network Engineer, Project Kuiper

  • Conceptualize and execute test campaigns focusing on network functionality and performance
  • End to end network, data and control plane testing including ground, satellite and customer terminals
  • Troubleshoot and root cause networking, throughput and packet loss issues across the system
  • Support and reproduce on orbit networking and data plane issues in the lab
  • Utilize AWS cloud resources and commercial-off-the-shelf test equipment
  • Draft and maintain high quality documentation for program-level feedback
  • Enhance testing efficiency by automating test execution and analysis

Requirements For Satellite Network Engineer, Project Kuiper

Linux

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on networking experience
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP,QoS and VLANs
  • Strong Linux skills including shell scripting and command-line operations
  • Experience with Linux-based networking tools and utilities
  • Experience working with the cloud and services (AWS preferred)
  • Handson experience with Wireshark, Iperf and other industry standard traffic and analysis tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
