Amazon Japan is seeking a Senior Engineer for their JCFS (Japan Customer Fulfillment Solutions) team to lead the design and development of material handling equipment in fulfillment centers. This role is crucial in maintaining Amazon's competitive advantage in rapid delivery speeds.
As a Senior Engineer in the Retrofit Engineering team, you will be responsible for managing construction and equipment modifications in existing fulfillment centers and sort centers. The role focuses on five key management areas: safety management, quality management, process management, equipment management, and budget management.
You will collaborate with global engineering teams to implement cutting-edge technologies and processes in Japanese facilities. The position requires expertise in material handling systems, project management, and leadership skills to drive multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
Key responsibilities include designing high-efficiency material handling equipment, collaborating with domestic and international partners, proposing innovative solutions, and ensuring workplace safety through standard work creation and design reviews. You'll be working on projects ranging from 10 months to 2 years in duration, managing investments over 100 million yen.
The ideal candidate brings strong engineering capabilities, proven leadership experience, and excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity and have experience in managing complex technical projects.
The role offers flexible working hours and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge logistics technology in one of the world's leading e-commerce companies. You'll be part of a collaborative team of 3-6 engineers per project, working together to solve challenging technical problems and improve Amazon's fulfillment capabilities.
This position requires occasional early morning or night shift work during installation periods, with standard 8-hour workdays arranged flexibly among project team members. The role may involve staying near fulfillment centers during project implementation phases.

Responsibilities For Senior Engineer, RFE, JCFS
- Design and implement high-efficiency material handling equipment to achieve medium and annual plan inbound/outbound capacity
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to introduce cutting-edge processes and enhance next-generation capabilities
- Work with domestic and international partners to improve cost efficiency, procurement capability, and flexibility
- Propose and implement innovative ideas to enhance existing inbound/outbound capabilities
- Lead multiple capacity increase projects while improving communication channels
- Ensure workplace safety through standard work creation, design reviews, and change management
Requirements For Senior Engineer, RFE, JCFS
- Experience in designing and implementing material handling or manufacturing equipment
- 3+ years experience leading engineering teams
- Experience with CAD software design
- Experience in driving projects to completion with internal/external vendors including overseas
- Data analysis and technical report creation skills using Microsoft Office
- Communication skills in both Japanese and English (conversational level, proposal comprehension)
- Experience with automated transport equipment, packaging machinery, robots and high-speed manufacturing equipment (preferred)
- Skills and experience in lean manufacturing process design (preferred)
- Experience in proposing and managing projects with equipment investment of over 100 million yen (preferred)
