Job Description

AWS Managed Operations (MO) is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to join their AWSOM Team. Founded in April 2023, MO aims to reduce operational load through long-term engineering projects. This role combines hands-on systems operations with software engineering to improve AWS Regions' reliability and efficiency.

The position offers a unique balance of operational and development work, with approximately 50% time spent operating production systems and 50% making long-term improvements. You'll work on some of the largest software systems ever built, tackling challenges in reliability, performance, and efficiency.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you'll collaborate across diverse teams to impact our global customer base. Your responsibilities will include investigating and fixing deployment issues, designing solutions for systematic problems, managing Service Level Objectives, and developing software to optimize hardware fleet performance while reducing carbon emissions.

AWS values diverse experiences and welcomes candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. The role offers comprehensive benefits, mentorship opportunities, and a culture that promotes work-life harmony. You'll be part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which provides foundational services like S3 and EC2, while continuously innovating new products.

The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of systems engineering experience, strong programming skills, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. You'll work in an inclusive environment that supports ongoing learning and professional growth, while contributing to systems that power businesses worldwide.

Join us to help shape the future of cloud computing while working with cutting-edge technologies in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment. Your work will directly impact millions of AWS customers, making this an excellent opportunity for those passionate about large-scale systems engineering and operations.
