Job Description

AWS is launching its first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a groundbreaking initiative in utility computing. This role is part of the AWS Managed Operations team, focusing on building and leading operations for high-availability AWS services specifically for EU customers. The position involves working with core AWS services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock.

As a Systems Engineer, you'll be instrumental in the ESC launch planned for 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams to shape service evolution. Your daily responsibilities include working with technology leaders, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring optimal service performance metrics. The role requires participation in on-call rotations for incident management.

The position is based in Berlin and requires EU nationality, reflecting the European focus of the ESC initiative. You'll be part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which drives innovation in foundational services and continues to set industry standards. Responsibilities For Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations

  • Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025
  • Work with global AWS teams to influence AWS services and technology evolution
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations
  • Ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency
  • Participate in on-call rotations for incident resolution
  • Support development and management of AWS services including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock
  • Review operational health of services and identify anomalies
  • Create bug reports and provide feedback on change management documents

Requirements For Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations

  • Must be a national of an EU member state
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking, operating systems
  • Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby
  • Solid understanding of Linux and networking
  • Ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems affecting system performance
  • Able to lead creation and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs)
