Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations
Job Description
AWS is launching the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a groundbreaking development in utility computing. As a Systems Engineer in the AWS Managed Operations team, you'll be instrumental in building and leading operations and development teams focused on delivering high-availability AWS services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock exclusively for EU customers.
Your role involves overseeing the ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing AWS services evolution. Daily responsibilities include working with technology leaders, enhancing operations, and improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
Key aspects of the role:
- Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations
- Review operational health of services
- Identify anomalies and create bug reports
- Provide feedback on change management
- Develop and test automation scripts
- Educate service teams about European Sovereign Cloud
- Root-cause analysis and system resilience maintenance
The position requires EU nationality and residence, with Amazon providing relocation support within the EU. You'll be part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), supporting various services including Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps.

Responsibilities For Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations
- Build and lead operations and development teams
- Oversee the launch of European Sovereign Cloud in 2025

Requirements For Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations
- Must be a national of an EU member state
- Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering with hardware, software, networking, operating systems
- Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby
- Solid understanding of Linux and networking
- Ability to troubleshoot and anticipate system performance issues
- Capable of creating and improving standard operational procedures (SOPs)
- Fluency in written and spoken English
