Job Description

BlackSky, a leading real-time intelligence company, is seeking an experienced Program Chief Engineer to lead their multidisciplinary engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of space technology, software development, and systems engineering, reporting to the Vice President of Systems Engineering within the CTO office.

The position demands a unique blend of technical expertise across satellites, Electro-Optical payloads, ground systems, space communications, and software development. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex engineering solutions for long-term customer programs, managing technical performance, and ensuring effective resource utilization.

Key aspects of the role include designing and maintaining program architecture spanning BlackSky satellites and ground subsystems, driving data-driven decision-making, and collaborating with various stakeholders including Program Management, Functional Leadership, and customers. The position requires deep technical knowledge combined with strong leadership and communication skills.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $180,000 to $225,000 per year for candidates in Seattle, WA, with comprehensive benefits including full medical coverage, 401(k) matching, stock purchase options, and generous PTO. While the position is primarily based in Herndon, VA, remote work options are available for qualified candidates willing to travel as needed.

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of relevant experience with 5 years in remote sensing industry
  • Strong knowledge of satellite system architectures
  • Experience architecting complex software systems
  • Familiarity with Software Engineering best practices
  • Experience designing Software APIs and system integrations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be a US-born citizen
