Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join their team focused on building and advancing the technological backbone for Disney's media business globally. This role combines technical leadership in CDN architecture with data engineering expertise to optimize Disney's media delivery infrastructure.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing solutions that power Disney's massive media distribution network. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies in cloud computing, data engineering, and content delivery networks while contributing to products that reach millions of users through platforms like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and ABC.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $175,500 to $258,900 depending on location and experience, plus comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, bonus potential, and long-term incentives. Responsibilities For Principal Software Engineer
- Take ambiguous or conflicting requirements and bring clarity by proposing different solutions
- Manage partnerships with CDNs and other vendors in the media distribution space
- Lead technical architecture in the CDN space
- Develop a mental and quantitative model for coordinated mesh CDN strategy
- Manage CDN relationships, negotiating traffic, capacity, and pricing
- Develop scalable and simple solutions to challenging engineering problems
- Tie data from internal and external sources
- Lead by example writing well-constructed and easy to maintain code
- Raise the quality bar across the team
Requirements For Principal Software Engineer
- Bachelor's degree in computer science-related field or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of experience in development background and proficiency in Python
- Experience working with CDNs or a media background
- Experience with data modeling
- Experience designing and shipping data engineering software solutions
- Databricks experience or other data lake technology preferred
- Working knowledge of Python in a Spark environment
- Interest in video streaming and internet networking
