Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Android team, focusing on building world-class streaming applications. The position involves working with Disney's Media Engineering Android team, where you'll be responsible for building scalable solutions for Disney's Android applications that stream video across phones, tablets, and TVs. The role requires strong expertise in Kotlin and the Android SDK, with a focus on maintaining high code quality standards through unit testing and modern development practices.

As a Senior Engineer, you'll lead projects from conception to completion, working with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional streaming experiences. You'll be responsible for critical components including release processes, remote configuration management, and handling live production issues. The role involves ensuring proper implementation of advanced audio and video standards like Dolby Vision, Dolby ATMOS, and HDR10+.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $145,400 to $195,000 in New York City, with additional benefits and potential bonus opportunities. You'll be working in a hybrid environment, primarily on-site with occasional work-from-home flexibility, across locations in New York, Morrisville, and Bristol.

Responsibilities For Senior Software Engineer - Android

  • Maintain and update the Android variant of the Disney Media Player
  • Debug and diagnose Android Device issues
  • Collaborate with application development teams, services engineering teams and product management
  • Ensure latest audio and video standards delivery
  • Perform online code reviews of pull requests
  • Create and update documentation
  • Contribute to deployment quality and stability strategies
  • Help develop build system and continuous integration system

Requirements For Senior Software Engineer - Android

Kotlin
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • 5+ years of production experience with Kotlin and the Android SDK
  • Proficiency with Reactive Programming and Dependency Injection
  • Well-versed in different architectural patterns (MVI/MVVM or equivalent)
  • Pristine communication skills
  • Experience resolving production issues on a large scale
  • Experience with streaming video, codecs, and DRM (preferred)
  • Knowledge of maintaining large, modularized codebase (preferred)
  • Experience with Android TV / Amazon Fire TV development (preferred)
