Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Android team, focusing on building world-class streaming applications. This role sits at the intersection of technology and entertainment, working on products that reach millions of users globally.

The position involves developing and maintaining the Android variant of Disney's Media Player, ensuring high-quality video streaming across various devices including phones, tablets, and TVs. The successful candidate will work with cutting-edge audio and video standards like Dolby Vision, Dolby ATMOS, and HDR10+, while maintaining high code quality standards in a Kotlin-based environment.

As a Senior Engineer, you'll lead projects from conception to completion, contribute to critical components including release processes and remote configuration management, and handle live production issues. The role requires both technical expertise and leadership skills, as you'll be responsible for facilitating team growth and improving processes.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $145,400 to $195,000 in New York City, along with comprehensive benefits including medical coverage and bonus potential. Responsibilities For Senior Software Engineer - Android

  • Develop understanding of DE&ET software stack and MediaX component
  • Maintain and update the Android variant of the Disney Media Player
  • Debug and diagnose Android Device issues
  • Collaborate with development teams, services engineering teams and product management
  • Ensure latest audio and video standards delivery
  • Perform code reviews of pull requests
  • Create and update documentation
  • Maintain code understanding to identify and address issues
  • Contribute to deployment quality and stability strategies
  • Help develop build system and continuous integration system

Requirements For Senior Software Engineer - Android

Kotlin
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • 5+ years of production experience with Kotlin and Android SDK
  • Proficiency with Reactive Programming and Dependency Injection
  • Well-versed in architectural patterns (MVI/MVVM or equivalent)
  • Pristine communication skills
  • Strong code writing, testing, and documentation skills
  • Experience resolving production issues at large scale
  • Comfortable using Android libraries (Dagger 2/Hilt, RxJava2, Groupie)
  • Experience with streaming video, codecs, and DRM
  • Knowledge of maintaining large, modularized codebase
  • Experience using performance evaluation tools like Android Profiler
