Description For Software Engineer - Activation

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Activation team, focusing on building and maintaining data sharing platforms and processing systems at scale. This role is part of a global organization that powers Disney's media business worldwide, combining technology with creativity to build world-class products.

The position involves working with big data and backend technologies to develop scalable, fault-tolerant data products that ensure reliable delivery of both real-time and batch data. The tech stack includes cutting-edge technologies such as AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, Spark, and programming languages including Scala, Python, SQL, and Java.

As a Software Engineer on the Activation team, you'll be responsible for:

  • Building components of large-scale data platforms for real-time and batch processing
  • Participating in the development of next-generation service platforms on cloud-based infrastructure
  • Working collaboratively in an agile environment, participating in sprint planning and code reviews
  • Ensuring application reliability through automated testing
  • Contributing to the evolution of big data applications to meet changing business needs

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of software development experience, particularly with Python, Scala, or Java
  • Strong understanding of data processing technologies like Spark
  • Experience with SQL and data transformation processes
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly AWS
  • Knowledge of modern software development practices including git and CI/CD
