Job Description

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Software Engineer II to join their Living Room Devices, Browser Based Device, Client Application Engineering Team. This role focuses on building Direct-to-Consumer client apps like Disney+, Star+, ESPN and Hulu for various TV and browser-based devices. The position offers an opportunity to work on products that reach millions of consumers globally, developing streaming experiences using modern web technologies.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in frontend development, particularly with TypeScript and JavaScript, and will contribute to building scalable media applications. Working in a collaborative environment, you'll interact with UX designers, product managers, and other engineers to create best-in-class streaming experiences for platforms like Samsung and LG TVs.

This is a hybrid position requiring four days per week onsite in New York, offering a competitive salary range of $120,300 - $161,300, plus potential bonuses and long-term incentives. The role combines technical challenges with the opportunity to impact how millions of users experience Disney's entertainment content. Responsibilities For Software Engineer II

  • Rapidly prototype and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable media applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, and other web development technologies
  • Work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leadership to build best-of-class streaming experiences
  • Collaborate with other developers to build, review, and deliver modern media applications to Samsung, LG, and other streaming-media devices
  • Use data and experimentation to reinforce the value of new product functionality and continuously improve applications

Requirements For Software Engineer II

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in front-end application development
  • Proficiency in writing optimized JavaScript (ES5 & ES6) and TypeScript with a low memory footprint
  • Experience building browser-based applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, Preact/React and Redux
  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.)
  • Experience developing sophisticated user interfaces in a large and organized codebase
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent job experience
