Job Description

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Software Engineer II to join their Media Player Engineering team. This role focuses on providing best-in-class video experiences on browsers and browser-based connected devices. The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge video player technology and contribute to products used by millions globally.

The team is responsible for engineering Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms, including product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, and engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity. Media Engineering specifically builds software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney streaming platform, ensuring optimal playback experience for viewers.

As a Software Engineer II, you'll be working with JavaScript development, focusing on browser API standards and optimization tactics. The role offers unique opportunities to work within a strong organization of video experts, on a bleeding-edge video player stack, and with a world-class team of engineers in a highly collaborative environment.

The position is based in multiple locations (New York, Morrisville, or Seattle) with a hybrid work arrangement. The compensation package includes competitive base pay ranging from $109,400 to $161,300 depending on location, plus potential bonuses and comprehensive benefits. Requirements For Software Engineer II

  • Minimum 3 years experience in software engineering
  • 1 year experience working directly with HTML5 video playback (MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, CMAF)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills
  • Experience working with server side JavaScript in Node.js or Deno
  • Experience deploying web applications
