Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Core Data & Services team. This role is crucial in building and maintaining the technological backbone of Disney's media business globally. The position involves working with foundational datasets and data pipelines that power Disney's streaming services, requiring expertise in Scala, Python, and various data technologies.
The role offers an opportunity to work on systems that directly impact millions of users worldwide through Disney's major platforms including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and ABC. You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining core data infrastructure that enables dozens of engineering and analytical teams to make key business decisions.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll work with cutting-edge technologies including Airflow, Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Snowflake. The position requires strong technical skills in data engineering, distributed systems, and software development, with a focus on building scalable and efficient solutions.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on data pipelines, strong programming skills in Scala and Python, and experience with cloud technologies. Responsibilities For Sr Software Engineer
- Contribute to maintaining, updating, and expanding existing source code that powers Core Data platform in Scala and Python/Spark
- Extend functionality of current Core Data platform offerings
- Implement new software deployments for batch ingestion and stream processing
- Modify and code new features for shared libraries
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineers
- Develop and document internal and external standards and best practices
- Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of the Core Data platform deployments
- Participate in agile/scrum ceremonies
- Maintain detailed documentation
Requirements For Sr Software Engineer
- 5+ years of software engineering experience developing large data pipelines
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving expertise
- Strong fundamental Scala and Python software engineering skills
- Basic understanding of AWS or other cloud provider resources
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with distributed engineering systems like Spark and Kafka
- Experience with orchestration systems like Airflow
- Scripting language experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
