Job Description
Fitmate Coach is on a mission to make weight loss support truly work for people by providing 1:1 motivational coaching. Their approach blends human coaches with AI, enabling personalized, high-frequency support. As a Founding Engineer, you will own the product engineering stack, from backend infrastructure to mobile UX. You'll work directly with the Founder and play a central role in scaling their human-in-the-loop AI service, shaping how they build, ship, and scale tech that directly improves people’s health.
Responsibilities include leading the implementation of new features across web and mobile, integrating with LLMs and AI tools to enhance coach productivity, and designing scalable backend systems to support 24/7 coaching. The tech stack includes React, React Native, TypeScript, Node, Supabase, Postgres, GCP, Firebase, Docker, CircleCI, OpenAI, and Claude. This role offers the opportunity to shape the engineering culture and build the team, with compensation including salary and stock options. Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end tech stack powering our consumer and coach apps
- Lead implementation of new features across web (coach facing) and mobile (consumer facing)
- Integrate with LLMs and AI tools to enhance human coach productivity and personalized advice
- Design scalable backend systems to support 24/7 coaching across timezones
- Work closely with product and design to deliver rapid iterations with high impact
- Help shape our engineering culture and build the team
Requirements
- Built and shipped full-stack products in fast-paced environments
- Care about getting real things done, not just perfecting code
- Excited to be hands-on while also shaping architecture and roadmap
- Experience working with (or leading) cross-functional product teams
- Energized by our mission in health & behavior change
- Experience building in health tech or behavior change
- Worked with real-time features (WebSockets, Supabase Realtime)
- An eye for product and UX — not just implementation
