Job Description

FLIR, a Teledyne company, is seeking a Junior Project Engineer to join their team in Victoria, BC. This role combines software engineering with project management, focusing on delivering integrated software solutions for security and surveillance systems. The role involves hands-on work with software deployment, system commissioning, and customer interaction, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical challenges and client-facing responsibilities. You'll be responsible for system design, functional specifications, and coordinating software release plans while working closely with development, QA, and support teams.

This position requires travel within North America and internationally for software commissioning, trade shows, and demonstrations, typically once to twice per month for one to two weeks. The salary range of $61,900 to $82,500 reflects the entry-level nature of the position while offering room for growth.

Key aspects of the role include designing functional specifications, coordinating software releases, providing training, and ensuring quality assurance of project deliverables. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science, strong Microsoft product knowledge, and excellent communication skills.

The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced security and surveillance hardware, including cameras, radars, fence detection, and video analytics systems. Experience with control systems (security, surveillance, access control, SCADA) and IT network management is preferred but not required.

Requirements For Project Engineer

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Excellent computer and networking skills, specifically with Microsoft products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Software deployment and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to travel within Canada, the US, and globally
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR requirements)
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment
