Description For Staff Welding Process Engineer

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Welding Process Engineer to join their world-class Anode Process team. The role involves establishing qualified and validated processes on novel, first-of-kind equipment sets for Form Energy's Iron-Air multi-day battery. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing new technologies from concept to scaled implementation and a proactive, interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prioritizing safety across all aspects of manufacturing
  • Landing, commissioning, and developing automated processes on novel first-of-kind high-volume welding equipment
  • Training operators, technicians, and fellow engineers on developed processes
  • Optimizing and qualifying safety and product-critical welding processes
  • Conceptualizing and prototyping innovative metal joining methods for next-generation electrodes
  • Working with equipment vendors to design equipment and scale welding methods

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4+ years of experience in welding engineering or related fields. The position will be initially based in Eighty Four, PA, with a transition to nearby Weirton, WV. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities For Staff Welding Process Engineer

  • Prioritize safety across all aspects of manufacturing, ranging from process design to scaled manufacturing
  • Land, commission, and develop automated processes on novel first-of-kind high-volume welding equipment
  • Train operators, technicians, and fellow engineers on the processes you've developed
  • Optimize and qualify safety and product-critical welding processes in compliance with the appropriate standards and codes
  • Conceptualize and prototype innovative metal joining methods and architectures for next-generation electrodes
  • Work with equipment vendors to design equipment and scale welding methods for these novel architectures

Requirements For Staff Welding Process Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in welding engineering, metallurgy or a related field, with a focus on automated welding in a manufacturing environment
  • Comprehensive familiarity with welding industry standards (ASME and/or AWS) and best practices
  • Experience with welding processes, such as Laser Welding, Ultrasonic Welding, and Resistance Welding
  • A collaborative, cross-functional approach to solving tough problems and delivering highly capable production processes
  • Experience using statistical methods for making process development decisions
  • Subject matter expertise regarding: weld specification, weld qualification testing, mechanical testing, destructive weld characterization, and non-destructive testing using ultrasonic and eddy current method
