As part of the AI Modeling and Research team within the AI Organization, we're seeking a Director of Machine Learning Engineering for Document Intelligence. This role reports to the Senior Director of AI Modeling and Research and is crucial to our strategic AI initiatives.
The position involves leading a large team responsible for building sophisticated document intelligence systems that support major use cases across Claims, Services, Underwriting, Sales, and Corporate functions. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in ML modeling for document intelligence, including signal generation, classification, ranking, and fine-tuning.
As a leader in this role, you'll be responsible for architecting scalable solutions, establishing best practices, and building strong partnerships across the organization. The position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on GEICO's AI transformation while working within a structure that reports up to the Chief Technology, Product and AI Officer and ultimately the CEO.

Responsibilities For Director of Machine Learning Engineering, Document Intelligence
- Lead the strategy, design, and delivery of document intelligence model systems
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define technical roadmaps
- Architect scalable and reliable model ecosystems for document intelligence use cases
- Establish and drive best practices in ML modeling, data organization, and model management
- Mentor, hire, and grow a high-performing team of engineers
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards
- Continuously improve system performance and scalability
- Provide state-of-the-art consultation regarding document intelligence technologies
Requirements For Director of Machine Learning Engineering, Document Intelligence
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI/ML
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML in a production environment
- 4+ years hands-on expertise in AI/ML for document intelligence
- 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering Management
- Leadership experience managing teams of size >= 15
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- 4+ years experiences in building cross-functional partnerships
