Job Description

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead their Over-the-Air (OTA) software update quality and triage efforts across their vehicle platforms. This role sits at the intersection of automotive engineering and software development, focusing on ensuring robust and secure software deployments to millions of vehicles.

The position requires deep technical expertise in embedded systems, software deployment, and automotive architectures. The successful candidate will lead technical resolution of OTA-related issues, manage software feature deployments across vehicle portfolios, and drive innovation in testing methodologies. This is a critical role as GM transitions toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs).

Responsibilities For OTA Quality and Triage Staff Engineer

  • Lead triage and investigation of failures/issues from Over-the-Air Software Updates
  • Lead/support creation, PRC, root cause analysis, and verification test plans
  • Apply deep knowledge of reflash protocols across various controllers
  • Drive the evolution of quality assurance testing
  • Design and develop OTA integration and automation frameworks
  • Provide technical leadership to OTA triage experts team
  • Ensure understanding of full OTA event cycle
  • Collaborate with software integration and deployment teams
  • Lead OTA triage training and capability development
  • Support strategic initiatives and ensure cybersecurity

Requirements For OTA Quality and Triage Staff Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in software development, validation, or software program management
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across embedded systems
  • Deep understanding of OTA event cycle
  • Expertise in reflash mechanisms and protocols (UDS, DOIP, CAN)
  • Experience with SDV architecture and OTA reflash mechanisms
  • Experience developing automation frameworks
  • Familiarity with Python, Selenium, CAPL, AUTOBOT
  • Strategic mindset with ability to influence enterprise-wide initiatives
