Description For Data Center Mechanical Engineer

Google's Data Center Engineering team is at the forefront of designing and implementing the future of data center infrastructure. As a Data Center Mechanical Engineer, you'll be part of a team that mirrors an R&D department, tackling complex challenges in power usage and environmental sustainability. The role involves hands-on technical work in field-level implementation and operational support of Google's expanding data center portfolio.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of construction and operational processes. This includes participating in design reviews, supporting construction teams, and serving as a subject matter expert for Data Center Operations. The position requires expertise in mechanical systems, including cooling plants, fire suppression, and various utility systems.

Responsibilities For Data Center Mechanical Engineer

  • Participate in project specific design review process with focus on constructability, Google standards, and value engineering
  • Support construction teams and contractors in execution of on-site work with a focus on quality, speed, commissioning, issue mitigation, and adherence to Google standards
  • Support Data Center Operations as the primary internal customer throughout construction and post-occupancy as the system subject matter expert
  • Develop a detailed understanding of trade contractor project delivery strategies, planning, zoning, work sequences/packaging, etc. to optimize and align to program requirements

Requirements For Data Center Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of either chilled water cooling systems, air handling systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground dry/wet utilities
  • Experience in mission critical facilities and their mechanical infrastructure
  • Operational Experience in electrical, mechanical, or general construction safety procedures
