Senior Staff Data Scientist, Research, Search Platforms

Google is seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist to join their Search Platform Data Science (SPDS) team, focusing on understanding and measuring Search systems. This role involves working on critical aspects including Experiment, Reliability, Velocity, Latency, Capacity, Content and Ecosystem, Logs Quality, and Search Infrastructure.

The position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on Google's search infrastructure while maintaining its universally accessible experience used by billions globally. You'll be responsible for defining and developing system metrics to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of various systems and their interactions.

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist, you'll collaborate with engineering and product teams in Search Platforms on system-level optimizations, working closely with Search verticals and horizontal teams, SREs, and Core teams to understand the impact of system changes on user experience and Google's business outcomes.

The role combines technical expertise with leadership, requiring both deep analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex findings to stakeholders. You'll work with large-scale data sets, develop scalable analysis pipelines, and make strategic recommendations that influence product development.

This position offers competitive compensation including a base salary range of $248,000-$349,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The role is available in either Mountain View, CA or Cambridge, MA, offering the opportunity to work at the heart of Google's technical operations.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong quantitative background, preferably with a PhD, and extensive experience in analytics and coding. You'll need excellent statistical analysis skills, strong communication abilities, and the capability to both lead projects and mentor others while continuing to learn and adapt to new techniques.
