Description For Senior Structural Simulation Engineer, Pixel Watch

As a Senior Structural Simulation Engineer for the Pixel Watch at Google, you'll be part of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team using creativity and diverse engineering experience to solve various engineering problems. You'll participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts, working in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment. Collaboration with vendors and outside sources is key to see parts through to manufacture.

Google's Devices & Services team combines AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. The role involves researching, designing, and developing new technologies and hardware to make user interactions with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify risks, create analysis/simulation/validation plans, and propose solutions based on data.
  2. Owning and driving analysis of cutting-edge designs, enabling early optimization and root cause analysis.
  3. Generating FEA/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies.
  4. Building high-quality simulation models using thorough verification, calibration, and validation techniques.
  5. Driving exploration and integration of new technologies, materials, and analysis methods.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, extensive experience with structural simulation software, and expertise in engineering principles and material properties. Experience in the consumer electronics industry and advanced material characterization is highly valued.

Responsibilities For Senior Structural Simulation Engineer, Pixel Watch

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risk, create analysis/simulation/validation plan, brainstorm and propose solutions to problems based on analysis data, iterate through the entire product development cycle to optimize the design to achieve product performance objectives
  • Own and drive analysis of cutting edge designs, enabling early optimization prior to prototyping and root cause and failure analysis of complex mechanical problems
  • Generate FEA/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies. Use static, dynamic, structural and thermal-mechanical analysis and create and develop methods to predict field failure models
  • Build simulation models by using thorough verification, calibration, and validation techniques and best practices leading to high-quality results
  • Drive the exploration, validation and integration of new technologies, materials, analysis methods and tools to advance and expand team capabilities

Requirements For Senior Structural Simulation Engineer, Pixel Watch

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience with structural simulation software
  • Experience with engineering and physics-based first principles
  • Experience with the mechanical properties of materials (e.g., glass, ceramics, metals, plastics, polymers, or adhesives)
  • Experience with numerical methods, modeling practices, and FEA tools (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, etc.)
