Description For Tech Lead, Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Google is seeking a Tech Lead, Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join their Technical Infrastructure team. This role combines software and systems engineering to build and maintain large-scale, distributed systems that power Google's services. The position requires someone who can provide technical leadership while hands-on engineering distributed systems.

The role is part of Google's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization, which ensures Google's services maintain appropriate reliability and performance while constantly improving. SRE at Google is both an engineering discipline and a mindset focused on solving operations problems through creative engineering solutions.

As a Tech Lead SRE, you'll work on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and eliminating manual work through automation. The role requires expertise in distributed systems design, strong coding abilities particularly in languages like C++ and Python, and experience leading technical projects and teams.

Key responsibilities include engaging in the full service lifecycle from design to deployment, supporting pre-production services through consulting and capacity planning, maintaining live services by monitoring system health, and driving improvements in reliability and velocity through automation and system evolution.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of software development experience, strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, and proven experience designing and troubleshooting distributed systems. They should also possess excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills to effectively lead projects and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities For Tech Lead, Senior Site Reliability Engineer

  • Engage in and improve the whole life-cycle of services from inception and design, through to deployment, operation and refinement
  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews
  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
