Description For TPU Silicon Validation Engineer

Google is seeking a TPU Silicon Validation Engineer to join their Technical Infrastructure team. This role focuses on developing and validating custom silicon solutions for Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). The position involves working throughout the entire project lifecycle, from pre-silicon planning to end-of-life characterization.

As a TPU Silicon Validation Engineer, you'll be responsible for test design, bring-up, triage, and debug of TPU subsystems. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams including design, implementation, verification, and software developers to ensure proper ASIC test coverage. The role requires expertise in developing and executing test plans for functional and performance validation.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $127,000 to $187,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. You'll be part of Google's Technical Infrastructure team, which builds and maintains the architecture behind Google's vast product portfolio. The team takes pride in being the engineers' engineers and focuses on keeping networks running optimally for the best user experience.

Key responsibilities include developing detailed silicon test plans, implementing software tests for system validation, and debugging issues during product development. You'll collaborate with hardware and software teams to validate designs and identify design issues. The role requires strong experience with Python programming and ASIC validation.

  • Develop detailed silicon test plans based on design specifications
  • Implement test plans by developing software tests and flows for system validation and verification
  • Triage and debug issues found during new product development and find solutions
  • Work with cross-functional silicon team (architecture, design, software, firmware) for Google's Tensor Processing Units

Requirements For TPU Silicon Validation Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience scripting in Python or equivalent programming language
  • Experience in bringing up ASICs, performing functional and performance validation, and debugging failures
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science preferred
  • 2 years of experience with C++/Python software design principles preferred
  • Experience bringing up high-power ASICs preferred
  • Experience with reading hardware description languages (SystemVerilog) and chip design flow preferred
