HelloGov AI is an innovative Miami-based startup revolutionizing government tech services. Located in Brickell's financial district, we're focused on transforming how people interact with government services through advanced AI technology. Our solutions streamline various application processes including passports, travel visas, vehicle registration, and immigration.

We're looking for a Back-End Oriented Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Miami. This role is crucial in building and maintaining our platform's core systems, with a special focus on telephony and real-time communication features using Twilio. The position offers an opportunity to work with modern technologies including Python, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, REST APIs, Socket.io, and Twilio services, while collaborating with front-end engineers using Next.js and NestJS.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing scalable backend services, implementing real-time communication features, and integrating various Twilio services including Sync, TaskRouter, and Telephony. You'll work closely with product managers and QA engineers in an on-site, collaborative environment to deliver high-quality features.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer (Back-End Oriented)

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services with a focus on performance and reliability
  • Build and optimize APIs (GraphQL and REST) for internal and external applications
  • Implement real-time communication features using Socket.io
  • Integrate and extend Twilio services including Sync, TaskRouter, and Telephony
  • Work closely with front-end engineers to integrate back-end services with Next.js and NestJS applications
  • Collaborate with product managers and QA engineers to deliver high-quality features
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across the stack
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code while following best practices

Requirements For Software Engineer (Back-End Oriented)

  • Strong experience with Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django a plus)
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining GraphQL and REST APIs

  • Experience with real-time systems (Socket.io or WebSockets)
  • Familiarity with TypeScript and modern frameworks like Next.js and NestJS
  • Hands-on experience with Twilio services (Sync, TaskRouter, Telephony)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues
