Lead Engineer - Contacts
Job Description
HighLevel is seeking a Lead Engineer for their Contacts team to drive technical outcomes as a hands-on Individual Contributor. This role is at the core of their CRM platform, managing critical infrastructure for contact records, views, filters, and segmentation. The platform processes over 15 billion API hits daily and manages 470+ terabytes of data across five databases.
As the Lead Engineer, you'll spearhead high-impact initiatives across the Contacts domain, with a primary focus on frontend architecture and performance while maintaining full-stack capabilities. You'll work with complex UIs requiring sophisticated state management, real-time updates, and data modeling, ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.
The role offers the opportunity to work in a global, remote-first environment with over 1,500 team members across 15+ countries. HighLevel's platform powers over 1.5 billion messages and helps generate over 200 million leads monthly for more than 2 million businesses. The tech stack includes Vue 2/3, TypeScript, Node.js, and various modern technologies.
The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of full-stack experience with frontend expertise, demonstrating proficiency in building complex SPAs at scale. You'll lead frontend design discussions, establish best practices, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to backend development when needed. Responsibilities For Lead Engineer - Contacts
- Architect and own frontend systems and flows within the Contacts product
- Set patterns for frontend performance, state management, and maintainability
- Own and lead critical frontend initiatives within the Contacts platform
- Lead frontend design discussions, ensuring scalability, testability, and maintainability
- Define and enforce UI state management patterns, render performance best practices, and error handling strategies
- Work closely with design and product to deliver intuitive, accessible, and responsive interfaces
- Push for technical excellence through code reviews, automated testing, and robust documentation
- Participate in backend feature delivery when needed
- Drive key UI infrastructure initiatives
- Mentor junior engineers
Requirements For Lead Engineer - Contacts
- 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience with a deeper focus on frontend
- Have built or led major features in complex SPAs used at scale
- Understand Vue internals and how to debug rendering and reactivity issues
- Are comfortable profiling performance, optimizing DOM usage, and virtualizing heavy UIs
- Think deeply about developer experience (DX) and component reusability
- Are comfortable contributing to backend APIs and modeling data structures
- Can collaborate across functions and communicate trade-offs clearly
- Bring a strong sense of ownership and long-term thinking to your code
