JioStar, a leading global media & entertainment powerhouse reaching 750 million viewers weekly, is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to join their Adtech team in Bengaluru. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead the design and development of core advertising systems that are central to JioStar's capabilities.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of solving complex distributed systems challenges, working on high-throughput, low-latency systems that handle ad delivery, targeting, measurement, and optimization. The role demands technical excellence in backend development, with a focus on scalable and fault-tolerant systems using technologies like Java, Golang, or Python, along with modern cloud platforms and messaging systems.
The Ad Platform team at JioStar is positioned among India's top video advertising platforms, working across Video-On-Demand, Live Sports, and Ad Monetization. You'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies while solving challenging problems that sit at the intersection of content, monetization, and user experience.
The ideal candidate will bring 6-9 years of development experience, strong leadership qualities, and a passion for mentoring others. Responsibilities For Staff Software Development Engineer (Backend) - Adtech
- Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems that power JioStar's ad tech stack
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex backend projects, from technical design to deployment and monitoring
- Drive architectural decisions and influence long-term engineering strategy for the team
- Build systems with strong observability and monitoring, ensuring system health, uptime, and fast incident response
- Continuously evaluate and adopt relevant technologies
- Take ownership of operational excellence, including performance tuning, incident response, and root cause analysis
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct technical deep dives and code reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing
Requirements For Staff Software Development Engineer (Backend) - Adtech
- Proficiency in Java, Golang, or Python
- Experience designing and building distributed systems at scale
- Strong understanding of storage systems, query performance, and caching strategies
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), messaging systems (Kafka), and CI/CD pipelines
- Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage delivery timelines in fast-paced environments
- Passionate about growing engineers and leading by example
- Curious about how advertising systems work and how to optimize them for user and business outcomes
- Bachelors/master's in computer science or a related field with 6-9 years of development experience
