Description For Composites Engineer

Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.

The Composites Engineer will be an essential part of our engineering team, focusing primarily on the hands-on development of composite parts using pre-impregnated carbon fiber. From mold design to composite manufacturing, this role is integral to ensuring design for manufacturability and will involve direct interface with our design team. This position requires expertise in CAD, prototyping, and ideally, experience with airborne systems designed for mass production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mold Manufacture: Execute hands-on work in 3D printing and machining molds for composite parts.
  • Composite Part Production: Utilize molds to manufacture composite parts, primarily with pre-impregnated carbon fiber.
  • Design Collaboration: Interface directly with the design team to guide designs that are manufacturable, utilizing tools such as SolidWorks.
  • CAD Responsibilities: Create CAD models for molds based on designs provided by the design team.
  • Prototyping: Apply your background in designing and building composites, CNC machining, and mold-making for prototype development.
  • Quality Control: Inspect and test finished products to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Manufacturing Techniques: Incorporate and potentially improve composite manufacturing techniques.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with safety and quality regulations.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer with a strong background in composites and a passion for design for manufacturability. They will be highly skilled in CAD, prototyping, and composite part production, and will have the ability to work closely with design teams to bring concepts to life. Experience in airborne systems and a penchant for mechanical construction hobbies are definite pluses.

Mach offers competitive equity grants, health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development. Join us in defending the American way of life!
