Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Infrastructure

Marqeta, a leading card issuing platform, is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join their Data+ML organization. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of ML infrastructure at a company that powers major brands in the new economy like Block, Cash App, Affirm, and Instacart.

The position involves supporting the technical vision and development of ML infrastructure that enables end-to-end development and delivery of ML models. You'll work directly under the Sr. Director of Machine Learning, playing a crucial role in designing and implementing Marqeta's ML infrastructure. The role can be performed remotely within the United States or from the Oakland, CA headquarters.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be responsible for creating infrastructure supporting the complete ML lifecycle, from prototyping to deployment, utilizing AWS managed services. You'll collaborate with ML Science, Product, and Engineering teams to define technical designs and deliver highly available ML capabilities. The role requires maintaining high standards for operational excellence and driving best practices across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of ML engineering experience, with deep expertise in ML architecture, MLOps, and building compliant ML architectures in financial services. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence decision-making at all organizational levels are essential. The position offers competitive compensation based on location tier (National: $176,800-$221,000, Premium: $191,400-$239,200, Premium Plus: $208,000-$260,000) and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, flexible time off, equity, and family-forming benefits.
