Job Description

Microsoft Digital (MSD) is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer II to join their Infrastructure Engineering Services (IES) organization. This role is crucial in managing Microsoft's corporate hybrid hosting infrastructures and enabling workload migrations to Azure. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote at the Redmond campus.

As a Cloud Network Engineer II, you'll be at the forefront of Microsoft's modern network engineering process, working on innovative solutions while ensuring service reliability. The role involves network design and implementation, maintaining and operating networks, and supporting people and execution through collaboration and mentorship.

Key responsibilities include applying knowledge of networks and industry trends, creating bills of materials, participating in design reviews, troubleshooting network infrastructure, and managing deployments. You'll work with various network protocols including IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP, and overlay technologies such as EVPN and VXLAN.

The position requires either a Master's degree with 1+ year of experience or a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience in network design, development, and automation. Strong scripting skills in both Linux and Windows environments are essential.

Responsibilities For Cloud Network Engineer II

  • Network Design and Implementation - Apply knowledge of networks, industry trends, and field data
  • Create bill of materials and translate high-level design into low-level design
  • Participate in network design and code reviews
  • Monitor, analyze, debug and troubleshoot network infrastructure
  • Participate in on-call/DRI duties
  • Create root cause analysis for network incidents
  • Manage network deployments
  • Troubleshoot network routing protocols
  • Drive compliance against security objectives
  • Collaborate within and across teams
  • Mentor and provide feedback to other engineers

Requirements For Cloud Network Engineer II

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation OR Bachelor's Degree with 2+ years experience
  • Experienced with layer 2 analysis and troubleshooting TCP/IP routing & switching
  • Experienced with scripting (ex: Perl, Python, PowerShell, C#) in both Linux and Windows environment
