Job Description

Azure Fiber, a division of Microsoft, is seeking a talented Optical Engineer to join their team in Romsey, Hampshire. This role combines hardware engineering with software automation, focusing on developing and maintaining fiber optic testing protocols. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge hollowcore fiber and cable solutions in a state-of-the-art facility.

The role involves hands-on work in designing and implementing production testing for fibers and cables, establishing robust test methods, and ensuring consistent execution across the production environment. You'll be responsible for conducting lab-based product characterization, analyzing test data, and documenting best practices. The position requires collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, and Modelling teams to introduce and validate new products.

Responsibilities For Optical Engineer – Fibre Test and Automation

  • Designs and develops automated testing solutions
  • Conducts automated testing on moderately complex feature areas or products
  • Creates robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and verification plans
  • Implements technical solutions to quality and design challenges
  • Reviews verification plans and advises on test equipment purchases
  • Develops outsourced testing plans and content reporting formats
  • Conducts data/statistical analyses to identify problems and solutions

Requirements For Optical Engineer – Fibre Test and Automation

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND technical engineering experience
  • Experience in programming languages AND relational databases
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Knowledge in specific engineering domain
  • Ability to conduct automated testing and develop testing solutions
