Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is seeking an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer to join their team responsible for powering Microsoft's global cloud services. This role involves designing and engineering outside plant routing for Microsoft's metro and long-haul connectivity requirements, working with the Sourcing team, delivery team, and fiber network providers to ensure network standards are met.
The position is crucial in delivering core infrastructure for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. You'll be working with a large global portfolio of more than 200 data centres in 32 countries, supporting services for over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses worldwide.
As an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer, you'll focus on optical fiber network design, planning, and engineering for new and existing regions. Key responsibilities include approving service provider designs, conducting site walks, managing permits, and performing quality assurance inspections. The role requires expertise in optical transmission systems, network availability analysis, and maintaining accurate cable network records in GIS systems.
The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in civil or telecommunication engineering, with strong project management skills and the ability to work across multiple time zones.
