Azure Cloud & AI infrastructure is at the forefront of the next industrial revolution. The Azure Fiber & AI team designs, builds, and operates the Global Optical Network—the backbone of connectivity for Azure services, Teams, Xbox, Office, Bing, and OpenAI's ChatGPT worldwide.

As a Principal Cloud Network Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in expanding and operating solid core and hollow core fiber networks. You'll lead development and implementation of components and systems from design through deployment, focusing on innovative technologies like Silicon Photonics (SiPho), Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), and Hollow Core Fiber (HCF) optics for AI.

The role involves spearheading development of AI-driven network management, quality monitoring and improvement software. This highly visible position sits in an area of significant investment for Microsoft, offering substantial growth opportunities. You'll work at the cutting edge of the AI network revolution, combining infrastructure design with AI-based network operations tools.

Responsibilities For Principal Cloud Network Engineer

  • Perform testing and validation of network devices, firmware, and configurations
  • Conduct testing of optical grey and WDM transceivers, transponders and line systems
  • Act as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers
  • Integrate AI-based software tooling into operations
  • Lead project and release plans for optical networking optimized for AI systems

Requirements For Principal Cloud Network Engineer

Kubernetes
  • Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing, testing and improving optical network systems
  • Pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Experience developing quality management programs
